About:
With the help of the 4-H program and many others we have gone from a dozen chickens to the over 200 now currently occupying the farm. We have layers and broilers / roasters to provide both eggs and meat. Meat from the broilers is processed at government inspected plants providing you with the safety your family requires. See our products tab for more information.
Our team includes 3 members of the Otter Flying Feathers 4-H Club we are also members of the Fraser Valley Poultry Fanciers (FVPFA) club. Various team members hold the following positions:
Together we have a combined 8 years of experience in raising poultry. Although we hope to not stop there but are working at being able to provide more in both fresh produce and livestock.
Fletcher Fields offers a variety of different sizes of eggs from a handful of chicken breeds. All of our birds have been raised from chicks here on the farm and raised to full grown layers.
What's in a name?
How does one pick a name for a baby, a company, or for that matter a piece of property?
Well, when it came to naming Fletcher Fields, there was great thought that went into the right name. The picture at the top of our web page is an actual picture taken in our back field. As we gazed at this property and thought of the purpose of living here for a time, we decided that the best thing to do was to have a name which reflected the ideals that we hold!
Okay, I am sure you want my long story to be a short story, so here is what we concluded...
The name Fletcher Fields is drawn from the 127th Psalm and the concept of children being likened to arrows.
Psalm 127
1) Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.
2) It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so he giveth his beloved sleep.
3) Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.
4) As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth.
5) Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.
Arrows:
The word "Fletcher" was first used as the name for someone who put the feathers on the back of arrows. Then it became more commonly used for one who made arrows.
The purpose of those feathers is so that arrows straighten out in flight sooner.
So one of the many benefits of children were likened to arrows in Psalm 127 in both the statement that "As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth" and "Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them"
So it is our goal to help our children "straighten out" quickly in flight so that they can carry out the purposes which God has for them.
Being a Christian is not an inherited trait, so we know that each of our children will have to make their own decision, however our goal is to give our children the understanding they need in their youth to make an EDUCATED choice.
The bottom line is that we are merely fletchers helping arrows to straighten out in flight.
